Sophie Timms is a British Mezzo-Soprano. An alumnus of The Sixteen’s Genesis Sixteen programme, VOCES8 scholarship and the St Martin’s Voices Fellowship programme, Sophie performs in professional choral, oratorio, recording and opera work across the UK and abroad, working with ensembles including The Sixteen, Gabrieli Consort, Philharmonia Voices, OAE Choir of the Enlightenment, Ora Singers, London Voices, Stile Antico, Britten Sinfonia Voices and as a Professional Singer with the Philharmonia Chorus.

Sophie graduated with an MMus Master’s in Vocal Studies with Distinction from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she was awarded the Trinity Laban MMus Prize for the highest achievement at Master’s level and also awarded the Linda Hirst Contemporary Vocal Prize. Sophie was generously supported by the Kathleen Roberts Vocal Scholarship, the Clemence Charitable Trust and the Black Heart Foundation. Sophie has performed in several masterclasses, including with Barbara Hannigan, Roderick Williams and Susan Bullock.

Recent operatic engagements include Chorus Pagliacci (Opera Holland Park), Chorus Semele (Opéra de Lille/Le Concert d’Astree), Chorus Eugene Onegin (Opera Holland Park) & Chorus The Flying Dutchman (Grange Park Opera). Recent solo engagements include mezzo-soprano soloist for Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem and Vivaldi Gloria.

 

Sophie is currently participating in the Brighton Early Music Festival Artist Scheme as an emerging solo artist for the 2024-2025 season.
